What is home Physiotherapy?

Home physiotherapy is rehabilitation done in the person's own living environment. It is preferred after a stroke, after hip or knee replacement and fracture surgery, after a fall in older age or for people who have been bedbound for a long time, when clinic visits are tiring or difficult. Working at home lets the person learn to deal safely with real obstacles such as stairs, the bathroom and the bed. The physiotherapist also assesses fall risks at home and trains carers in positioning and transfers. For bedbound patients, regular movement is important to reduce pressure sores and clot risk. Treatments that need heavy equipment may not be possible at home.

  2. Assessment at home: movement, balance, walking and the home environment
