What is gastric Bypass Surgery?

In Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, a small pouch is created at the top of the stomach and connected to a lower part of the small intestine, bypassing most of the stomach and the first part of the intestine. It reduces how much you can eat and changes gut hormones, leading to substantial weight loss and often improvement or remission of type 2 diabetes and reflux. It is done laparoscopically. Lifelong vitamin and mineral supplements and follow-up are required. Eligibility is based on BMI and related health conditions and should be assessed by a multidisciplinary team.
