What is prostate Surgery (TURP, HoLEP)?
For benign prostate enlargement that does not respond to medication, the obstructing part of the prostate is removed through the urethra. In TURP an electric loop is used; in HoLEP a holmium laser removes the enlarged tissue. Both are done without an external incision and improve urine flow.
How is prostate Surgery (TURP, HoLEP) done?
- Assessment: PSA, ultrasound, urine flow test
- Spinal or general anaesthesia
- Removing obstructing prostate tissue through the urethra
- Urinary catheter for 1–3 days
- Check-up and tissue examination
Who is prostate Surgery (TURP, HoLEP) suitable for?
- Men with urinary symptoms not helped by medicines
- Urinary retention, recurrent infections or bladder stones due to the prostate
- Kidney problems caused by blockage
Aftercare: what to watch out for
- Drink plenty of water; blood in the urine may come and go for a few weeks.
- Avoid heavy lifting, cycling and straining for about 4 weeks.
- Prevent constipation.
Possible side effects and risks
- Bleeding
- Urinary infection
- Retrograde ejaculation (semen going into the bladder)
- Temporary urinary leakage
- Rarely narrowing of the urethra
Are there alternatives?
Medicines, minimally invasive procedures and, for very large prostates, open or robotic surgery are alternatives.

Who is the best doctor for prostate surgery in Adana?
There is no single “best” doctor for everyone. The right doctor for you is experienced in prostate surgery, easy to reach, and explains the options clearly. Check whether the doctor lists this treatment on their profile, their specialty (urologist), the overall picture of patient reviews and the clinic’s location, and ask for a clear written treatment plan, timeline and cost at the first consultation. For major treatments you have the right to a second opinion. “En İyi Hekim” (Turkish for “best doctor”) is our brand name: we do not rank doctors as “best” and rankings cannot be bought.
How do I find a urologist for prostate surgery in Adana?
On each profile you can see reviews, the clinic address and available times, and send a free appointment request through our site.
