What is turbinate Reduction (Nasal Concha Reduction)?
The turbinates (conchae) are structures on the side walls of the nose that warm and humidify the air. Allergies, chronic inflammation or long-term use of decongestant sprays can make them swell permanently and block the nose. Turbinate reduction shrinks this tissue using radiofrequency energy, a microdebrider or surgical techniques while preserving its function as far as possible. It is often combined with septoplasty for a deviated septum. In Turkish, the term “burun eti” is used for turbinates in adults but is sometimes confused with adenoids in children.
