What is laser Skin Resurfacing (Fractional and CO2 Laser)?
Laser skin resurfacing causes controlled damage to the skin with a laser beam so that the skin renews itself as it heals. Ablative lasers (CO2 and erbium) vaporise the upper layer of the skin; their effect is stronger and recovery takes longer. Non-ablative lasers heat the tissue underneath without removing the surface; recovery is shorter and the effect more limited. In fractional techniques, the laser is applied not to the whole surface but to thousands of micro-points with intact skin left between them, which speeds healing and lowers the risk of side effects. The main uses are fine wrinkles, sun spots and sun damage, enlarged pores, rough skin texture and acne or surgical scars. It has a limited effect on deep wrinkles and sagging skin. Darker skin has a higher risk of pigmentation, so the device and settings must be chosen for the skin type.
